THE RETAIL LAB / YOUR INFORMATION

Privacy Notice

How The Retail Lab handles information when you create an account, request research or contact us.

1. Who is responsible

David Seminsky, doing business as The Retail Lab in San Diego, California, is responsible for the information handled through this service. Contact seminsky@icloud.com with privacy questions or requests.

2. Information we handle

We handle your email address, account identifier, account verification status, signup terms version and acceptance time, research requests, selected companies and markets, report history, delivery status and communications you send us. Inquiry forms may also include your name, business website and question. Our authentication provider processes passwords and verification codes; passwords are not included in reports.

Hosting and security providers may process connection information such as IP address, device or browser information, request times and operational logs. If you arrange payment, we may keep billing or transaction records needed to deliver the agreed service and meet legal obligations. Do not send payment-card numbers, passwords, sensitive personal information or confidential company records through the research forms.

3. How information is used

We use information to create and verify accounts, save and deliver reports, respond to inquiries, process agreed services, send verification and report-ready messages, maintain security, resolve disputes and meet legal obligations. Research uses your company, market and business question to focus public-source analysis. Signup agreement is not consent to an unrelated marketing subscription.

4. Providers and other disclosures

We use providers for hosting, authentication, database services, email delivery and AI-assisted research, including OpenAI/Sites and its hosting infrastructure, Supabase, and Resend where configured. Information is processed by those providers as needed for their role. Company names, markets and questions may be sent to AI research services; do not include secrets or personal information that is unnecessary for the request. Information may be processed outside your country, including in the United States.

We do not sell your account information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising as part of this service. We may disclose information when required by law, to protect lawful rights or security, or during a business transfer subject to applicable safeguards and notice requirements. Customer submissions and reports are not automatically published to the Journal or used as public testimonials.

5. Cookies and security

The website uses essential account-session cookies to keep you signed in and support secure access to your reports. Blocking those cookies may prevent account features from working. We use access controls and encrypted connections, but no service can guarantee absolute security. Do not share your password or use an account you are not authorized to access.

6. Retention and your choices

We retain account information, requests and reports while needed to provide the service, and may retain limited records afterward for legal obligations, security or dispute resolution. Retention varies by purpose and provider; we do not promise permanent online report storage. Backups may persist for a limited period after active records are deleted.

Email seminsky@icloud.com to request access, correction or deletion, or to ask about applicable privacy rights. We may need to verify your identity. Some records may need to be retained for legal or legitimate operational reasons. Where applicable law provides additional rights, including restriction, objection, portability or complaint to an authority, those rights remain available. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a protected right.

7. Children and notice changes

The service is intended for adults 18 and older. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action. We will date changes to this notice and give additional notice or obtain consent when required by law.
